Papillon Bolero Knitting Pattern

10.8.14
Today I like to share my new "one evening" knitting project. It is Papillon Bolero and knitting pattern for it. I made this cozy and stylish bolero with Phildar cotton yarn in beautiful pink color. This little cardi is knitted in simple stockinette stitch with raglan sleeves. I love the result and this simple design. It is knitted bottom up as one piece and has no seams at all. The beautiful lace butterfly pattern on the back gives this cardi a stylish girly look  and makes it 'must have' garment for the summer season.

  2. Gorgeous! Are the instructions for the butterfly also written out? Not too good with charts.
    Thanks. M.T.

    1. The pattern has two charts of butterfly for different sizes. I’ll update this pattern with row-by-row instructions for these charts and let you know. Thanks.

  3. I am confused...I just finished the Butterfly rows and then looked at the photo again. There seem to be many rows of stockinette stitch before the butterfly pattern starts but I do not see any indication in the pattern that there should be several inches of stockinette before beginning the butterfly. Where am I missing this direction? I was thinking I'd just add rows above the butterfly to fix this then....
    2. I realized that after completely doing the butterfly and seeing that my piece already measures 5 1/2 inches that I should have started the decrease for the raglan sleeve back at 3 1/8 inches. I am very dismayed at the confusing pattern. I am a competent knitter and read the pattern before starting, but I am not happy with this pattern. are there any corrections to the pattern?

    1. Hello,
Thank you for getting in touch. There is no correction for the pattern. It was test knitted and knitted many times, so I believe there are no errors there. My answers to your questions are as follow:
      1. There are just 8 (10; 12; 14; 16; 18; 22) rows of stockinette before Butterfly chart, NOT several inches. I’ve just added a temporary photo with measurements to my Ravelry project page. Please follow the link and check the last photo.

      2. The pattern asks to start decrease for raglan shaping when piece measures 7 (8; 9; 10; 11; 12; 13) cm/ 2¼ (3⅛; 3½; 4; 4⅜; 4¾; 5¼) inches. The instruction is given after wording “AT THE SAME TIME” in bold print.

If you need more help please contact me via email shown in the pattern.
