Beginner Knitting Pattern for child sweater - Quiet Season Sweater

20.9.25

I’m so excited to share my new children design—the Quiet Season Sweater, a perfect companion for this fall and beyond. This sweater is a comfortable and timeless piece, worked seamlessly from the top down. Featuring a European shoulder construction, it has a relaxed silhouette with plenty of positive ease (6–15 cm / 2⅜–6"), dropped shoulders, and a classic round neck.

The body is knitted in soothing stockinette, while the cuffs, neck, and hem are framed with a garter stitch rib. Longer cuffs and hem bands add a modern twist to its classic lines. Knitting begins at the top of the back with shoulder shaping; then stitches are picked up for the front before the body and sleeves are worked in the round.

The design is versatile and easy to adapt. By shortening the hem ribbing, the Quiet Season Sweater can be styled for boys, and it’s just as easy to add stripes in a contrast shade for extra personality. Body and sleeve lengths are simple to adjust, making it a truly universal piece.

The sample is knit in a soft DK alpaca-silk blend in a delicate light beige, but it will look beautiful in any yarn that gives you the drape and warmth you love.

The Quiet Season Sweater is a design that quietly blends comfort, simplicity, and elegance—the kind of sweater you’ll reach for again and again.
