Beginner Friendly tutorial: Perfect Neckline Every Time – Knitting Mistakes & Fixes.

29.9.25

Have you ever struggled with neckband finishing? Maybe your neckband turned out too narrow or too wide, the stitches around the neckline looked untidy, or it was tricky to spread the stitches evenly? What seems like a simple step can cause so many little frustrations!

Over the years, I’ve developed my own set of tricks and techniques to avoid these common issues - not only for neckbands, but also for other ribbed edges like sleeve cuffs and cardigan bands.

I’ve shared them all in a new video on my YouTube channel: “Perfect Neckline Every Time – Knitting Mistakes & Fixes.”

In the video I covered the following mistakes:

-          Loose pick up stitches for neckband

-          Pick up ratio for front and back

-          Narrow neckline and bind off problem

-          Wide neck opening

-          Loose gauge for ribbing

I also shared my tricks which would help you fix those and many other mistakes as well as showed how to knit the neck band correctly.

I hope you’ll find some tips in there that make your knitting easier and your finishing even neater. ✨

Grab you cuppa and enjoy watching the video.

These slippers are a stylish and comfortable alternative to traditional socks. They combine an eye-catching textured stitch with simple stockinette, creating a fabric that is both practical and beautiful. Designed with versatility in mind, the pattern includes sizes for both children and adults, making them a wonderful addition to any family’s wardrobe.

Beginner Knitting Pattern for child sweater - Quiet Season Sweater

20.9.25

I’m so excited to share my new children design—the Quiet Season Sweater, a perfect companion for this fall and beyond. This sweater is a comfortable and timeless piece, worked seamlessly from the top down. Featuring a European shoulder construction, it has a relaxed silhouette with plenty of positive ease (6–15 cm / 2⅜–6"), dropped shoulders, and a classic round neck.

The body is knitted in soothing stockinette, while the cuffs, neck, and hem are framed with a garter stitch rib. Longer cuffs and hem bands add a modern twist to its classic lines. Knitting begins at the top of the back with shoulder shaping; then stitches are picked up for the front before the body and sleeves are worked in the round.

The design is versatile and easy to adapt. By shortening the hem ribbing, the Quiet Season Sweater can be styled for boys, and it’s just as easy to add stripes in a contrast shade for extra personality. Body and sleeve lengths are simple to adjust, making it a truly universal piece.

The sample is knit in a soft DK alpaca-silk blend in a delicate light beige, but it will look beautiful in any yarn that gives you the drape and warmth you love.

The Quiet Season Sweater is a design that quietly blends comfort, simplicity, and elegance—the kind of sweater you’ll reach for again and again.

Easy Knitted Slippers Pattern - Gentle Steps for All Ages

30.8.25

While working away on my new knitting designs (coming soon!), I somehow found myself knitting… yet another pair of cosy slippers!

Did I already mention that after years of not knitting socks, I’m now completely addicted? Probably I did… 😉

Anyway, I’m really happy to introduce my newest design to you today - the Gentle Steps Slippers!

My idea was to create super simple, almost invisible slippers with a clean, minimalist look. After some thinking and swatching, I realized that good old stockinette stitch was the best choice — even if it’s not something I usually go for!

Even the edge band is done in stockinette. And I actually included two versions of the edge band in the pattern - more on that below.

To make my pair special, I added a few little embroidered hearts - just a sweet detail. There's a photo tutorial in the pattern and a video tutorial on my YouTube channel if you’d like to add them too, but of course, feel free to skip them! The slippers also look great plain, especially if you use multicoloured or speckled yarn.

Tutorial is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGhBfSVO3Aw

 About the pattern:

- Beginner-friendly.

- Written for both children and adults.

- Knit toe-up, with a shaped sole, short-row heel, and finished with an edge band.

- Uses 4-ply sock yarn

Edge band options:

- Simple stockinette edge — clean, minimal, and perfect for quiet days at home

- Double-layered edge band — designed with busy kids (or active adults!) in mind. It offers a snugger fit and you can even add a thin elastic cord inside if needed!

Short knitted socks in simple stitch - Flexy Fit Slippers

14.8.25

I am happy to share a new knitting pattern for comfortable short socks -  Flexy Fit Slippers. This pair is a sibling to my popular Flexy Fit Socks. Those slippers are comfortable, practical, and fun to knit.

The Flexy Fit Slippers are worked in a combination of 1x3 ribbing and stockinette, starting with a heel flap on straight needles. The toe and edge band (in 2x1 rib) are knit in the round. The design is soft, stretchy, and super adjustable - perfect for creating either open or more closed slippers.

The slippers are knitted with fingering/4-ply weight yarn. I used a budget friendly sock yarn from Drops  - Nord. It is alpaca wool blend with  30% of polyester fibre for durability.

Knitting pattern for Flexy Fit Slippers is beginner-friendly and comes in sizes for both children and adults.

Surface Crochet Technique video tutorial and Tamar Hat

17.3.25

Recently I shared two designs of mine - Tamar Poncho and Tamar scarf, knitted in colour block and decorated with surface crochet. Today, I'd like to share another design completed in this technique  - Tamar Hat. In addition, I made the video tutorial for this fancy method of decoration, which would help you to master this fancy technique and decorate any knitted garment or accessory.

Let's start with the Tamar Hat

The Tamar Hat is a beautifully simple beanie, crafted with one main colour and accented by a single contrasting shade. While the design may be straightforward, the tartan effect adds a touch of sophistication, making it both stylish and unique.

I explored two delightful variations for this pattern: a light-coloured hat with dark stripes and a dark-coloured hat with light stripes. Both styles showcase the versatility of this design, letting the interplay of colours take center stage.

Knitting pattern for Tamar Hat is available from Ravelry

The Magic of Surface Crochet

What makes those hats truly special is the surface crochet technique, which is used to create the illusion of woven tartan lines. This easy crochet method adds depth and structure without requiring complicated intarsia or stranded knitting. If you’ve never tried surface crochet before, don’t worry—the pattern includes a step-by-step photo tutorial to guide you through the process!

And the best news is I recorded a video tutorial for the Surface Crochet, which is available from my YouTube channel.

Tamar Scarf – A Cozy and Colorful Knit with a Tartan Twist

1.2.25

If you love the timeless look of tartan but prefer knitting over weaving, the Tamar Scarf is the perfect project for you! This beginner-friendly pattern uses five beautiful colors to create a striking plaid effect, all thanks to the surface crochet technique. Whether you're new to colorwork or looking for a fun way to use up some single skeins from your stash, this scarf offers a wonderful way to experiment with multiple shades while keeping the knitting process simple and enjoyable.

A Blend of Colors and Texture

The Tamar Scarf is designed with three main colors—green, taupe, and yellow—combined with two contrast colors—white and brown—to create delicate narrow stripes. The rich tweed texture of the yarn adds depth and character to the design, giving it a rustic, cozy feel.

The scarf is knitted in Drops Soft Tweed (DK weight), a soft and affordable yarn with beautiful flecks that enhance the overall look. If you're looking for budget-friendly substitutes, here are some great alternatives:
•    From Lovecrafts: King Cole Big Value Tweed DK , Stylecraft Life DK

•    From KnitPicks: City Tweed DK, Wool of the Andes Tweed

The Magic of Surface Crochet

What makes this scarf truly special is the surface crochet technique, which is used to create the illusion of woven tartan lines. If you’ve never tried surface crochet before, don’t worry—the pattern includes a step-by-step photo tutorial to guide you through the process!

A Flexible and Stash-Friendly Project

One of the best things about the Tamar Scarf is its versatility. You can stick to the original five-color palette, add more shades for extra vibrancy, or simplify it with fewer colors. This pattern is also a fantastic way to use up leftover yarn from previous projects—perfect for those single skeins waiting for the right project!
